Kieran Quinn

Born in Australia and raised in Sligo, Kieran’s musical background is also diverse. Classically educated and possessed of a keen ear, his school and university years were spent composing, arranging, and performing popular tunes. Upon discovering the music of Oscar Peterson and Dr. John however, his musical direction and focus changed, and after some time at the Newpark Music Centre’s prestigious degree course in Jazz Performance, Kieran began work as a professional musician.

The variety in his education is evident in his playing – Kieran’s influences range from Chopin to Nina Simone, from Lennon/McCartney to Scott Joplin and his talent allows him to move seamlessly between genres. He is equally at home as an accompanist or band leader, and you are as likely to be entertained by him in an intimate musical setting or at a swinging party.

Kieran is the pianist with the North West’s premier jazz outfit, The Odd Couple, he has featured on recordings with many artists, including No Crows and young jazz virtuoso Matthew Halpin. Since 2008 he has been the musical director of Coolera Dramatic Society’s hugely successful Christmas pantomime in Sligo.

In addition to a busy perfoming schedule, Kieran operates a successful private teaching practice, and arranges music for musical groups of all sizes. He is in constant pursuit of the betterment of his craft, having studied with musicians of the calibre of Rufus Reid and Bill Carrothers, and has recently returned from a week of study in New Orleans with renowned pianist Tom McDermott.
